There are three programs which are offered through Vocational Services. Supported Employment, Prevocational/Work Activity, and Day Habilitation. Services are designed to assist adults in becoming independent in the communities in which they live.
Over the years contracts with outside businesses have expanded into many areas. First Resources Corporation has developed small business ventures such as janitorial services, car wash detailing, can redemption, recycling, shredding, assembly, contract work and second hand clothing retail stores. These services are set up to provide varied vocational training opportunities for the individuals served.
If an individual is seeking these services from First Resources Corporation, they may call the Iowa Department of Human Services in their local area, the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, or Case Management to assist them in accessing services.
Supported Employment is a service which matches people with disabilities to the workforce needs of both small and large businesses. Many job seekers, who were once considered unemployable, have secured employment as a result of this service. Supported employment services are provided in Keokuk, Davis, Mahaska and Wapello Counties. Highly qualified, experienced staff is employed to provide the highest level of support for our members.
Job Development: People who use this service are assessed for specific skills and interests so the right job can be located. Job readiness skills are then taught. Job coaching can be provided at the job site to ensure the maximum potential for success.
Assessments are also provided to individuals to help identify skills and job goals.
Pre-Voc/Work Activity programming is available for individuals who may not have the requisite skills to seek competitive employment. A wide variety of work is available to the individuals both inside the facility and in the business community. Work includes: janitorial services, car detailing, can redemption, paper shredding, assembly work and retail sales.
A vocational trainer supervises all the work services. These services are provided at the Sigourney and Bloomfield Vocational Sites and at contracted work sites in the business community. This program assists individuals with learning skills needed to attain community employment.
