Substance Abuse Treatment & Recovery Services:
First Resources Substance and Recovery services were created to provide treatment for youth and adults with substance abuse issues. Treatment is centered on Prochaska and DiClemente's stages of change model and is implemented with motivational interviewing techniques developed by William R. Miller and Stephen Rollnick, as well as the 12-Step model for recovery.
Substance Abuse Support Groups are offered at the Hancock office in Ottumwa to enhance continued success of sobriety and prevent relapse.
Family Support Groups are offered for family members of clients currently in substance abuse treatment who suffer the effects of the abuse. In addition, Licensed Mental Health professionals and Certified Substance Abuse Counselors are available on site to assist these family members.
Intensive Outpatient Program is specifically designed for adults experiencing a history of frequent relapse from drugs and alcohol. The program emphasizes education interventions so that clients can learn social, physical, and emotional effects of drugs and alcohol. Clients receive four group sessions per week lasting 2 hours each, and a weekly individual session lasting 1 hour. The duration of this program is 6-8 weeks.
Extended Outpatient Program is designed for clients who are believed to have a firm grasp of the basic concepts of staying sober, working through individual roadblocks, and requiring less structure to maintain sobriety. The program is individualized, but lasts a minimum of 6 weeks. Adolescent Extended Outpatient groups for those ages 12 to 17 are also offered.

This program is unique in that children attend treatment with their parent, so the family can recover together. Hope House staff recognize addiction as a disease that affects all aspects of a person's life. The length of treatment depends on the individual and level of care needed to begin healing and recovery. Women participate in scheduled programming which includes community groups, family therapy, and 12-Step meetings.
Hope House receives funding from The Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation.

Assessments and Evaluations are conducted through the use of interviews and surveys requiring honest and open communication from the client. Clients provide information to the counselor regarding the extent of addiction or substance abuse. The counselor then assesses the level of care needed to provide an effective, personalized treatment plan.
Substance Abuse Testing is offered in Ottumwa and includes: Breathalyzer, Hair Follicle, Urinalysis, Patch, and Saliva (Oral) drug testing. Tests are performed at our Hancock Street office and may be sent to a laboratory for confirmation.
Individual Counseling: Clients meet one on one with a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor to explore issues contributing to substance abuse. A treatment plan will be developed with input from the client, using a holistic approach.
