Substance Abuse Treatment & Recovery Services:

First Resources Substance  and Recovery services were created to provide treatment for youth and adults with substance abuse issues. Treatment is centered on Prochaska and DiClemente's stages of change model and is implemented with motivational interviewing techniques developed by William R. Miller and Stephen Rollnick, as well as the 12-Step model for recovery.

Support Groups

Substance Abuse Support Groups are offered at the Hancock office in Ottumwa to enhance continued success of sobriety and prevent relapse.

Family Support Groups are offered for family members of clients currently in substance abuse treatment who suffer the effects of the abuse. In addition, Licensed Mental Health professionals and Certified Substance Abuse Counselors are available on site to assist these family members.

Outpatient Programs

Intensive Outpatient Program is specifically designed for adults experiencing a history of frequent relapse from drugs and alcohol. The program emphasizes education interventions so that clients can learn social, physical, and emotional effects of drugs and alcohol. Clients receive four group sessions per week lasting 2 hours each, and a weekly individual session lasting 1 hour. The duration of this program is 6-8 weeks.

Extended Outpatient Program is designed for clients who are believed to have a firm grasp of the basic concepts of staying sober, working through individual roadblocks, and requiring less structure to maintain sobriety. The program is individualized, but lasts a minimum of 6 weeks. Adolescent Extended Outpatient groups for those ages 12 to 17 are also offered.

Hope House

The Hope House Treatment and Recovery Center specializes in providing residential drug and alcohol addiction treatment to pregnant women and individuals with children.  This program is unique in that children attend treatment with their parent, so the family can recover together. Hope House staff recognize addiction as a disease that affects all aspects of a person's life. The length of treatment depends on the individual and level of care needed to begin healing and recovery. Women participate in scheduled programming which includes community groups, family therapy, and 12-Step meetings.

Hope House receives funding from The Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation.

Oak Meadow

Oak Meadow Treatment and Recovery Center specializes in providing inpatient drug and alcohol addiction treatment. This program teaches how to avoid relapse, learn about the disease of addiction, and provide a therapeutic approach to support recovery.

First Resources and Oak Meadow staff recognize addiction as a disease that affects all aspects of a person’s life, therefore, our treatment programs are equipped for co-occurring services to support a person’s recovery.

Clients live in a supportive, encouraging environment providing therapeutic interventions to enable a person to live addiction free.

Substance Abuse inpatient treatment is a short term 30-45 day service in which professionally trained staff provide the 24-hour care  and support needed to rebuild one’s life.

Partial Hospitalization (PHP) is the next step to promoting continued recovery, which will provide ongoing support once you are ready for independent living and continued recovery.

A variety of outpatient services are incorporated into transitional care at the time of discharge from Oak Meadow inpatient treatment services. These programs are designed to motivate individuals to maintain sobriety in addition to the added benefits of individual and group support.

Our approach  integrates treatment elements from a number of evidence based strategies including relapse prevention, motivational interviewing, stages of change, substance abuse education, family group, and the 12 Step Program involvement.

Clients will participate in individual and group sessions, gender specific groups, trauma workshops, educational lectures, relapse prevention skill development, and will acquire daily living skills.

Our professionally trained staff of Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors, therapists, and Inpatient  Behavioral Technicians create an environment for recovery to take place.

Other Services

Assessments and Evaluations are conducted through the use of interviews and surveys requiring honest and open communication from the client. Clients provide information to the counselor regarding the extent of addiction or substance abuse. The counselor then assesses the level of care needed to provide an effective, personalized treatment plan.

Substance Abuse Testing is offered in Ottumwa and includes: Breathalyzer, Hair Follicle, Urinalysis, Patch, and Saliva (Oral) drug testing. Tests are performed at our Hancock Street office and may be sent to a laboratory for confirmation.

Individual Counseling: Clients meet one on one with a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor to explore issues contributing to substance abuse. A treatment plan will be developed with input from the client, using a holistic approach.
